Live Nativity and choir bring Christmas cheer to the Farmer’s Market Shoppers at Sunday’s Farmer’s Market in Newbury were surprised to find a stable complete with sheep, cow and donkey in the Market Place. The nativity scene by Farm Company Kidsrome saw manager Craig Skidmore in the role as Joseph. “The children really enjoyed visiting us, though I must admit we were freezing, despite our thermals.” Paul and Sarah Thomas from Newtown Road in Newbury brought their children Ben, 4 and Isla, 18 months. “They loved the stable scene, we had to come back three times so Ben could stroke the donkey, it’s a lovely idea and brings the whole Nativity story to life.” Pupils from Falkland Primary school choir joined the scene, singing carols and Christmas songs under the musical guidance of headmaster Rhodri Bowen. “It’s wonderful to be given the opportunity of performing in public, the children had a great time and sang with gusto, it certainly helped warm us up.” Barbara Fielding, who lives in Kingsclere said, “I came to the Farmer’s Market to buy my veg for Christmas, what a lovely treat, I thought Mary and Joseph were very brave, they made me feel cold just looking at them!”
